Plants adapt to their environment in many ways. They can have structural or behavioral adaptations.
For example, a cactus has developed some structural adaptations to help it survive in the desert. It has small, pointy leaves (called needles) to help cut down on water loss. Cacti also have the ability to store water. In the desert, where it rarely rains, this adaptation allows them to save water and helps them survive, even when it doesn't rain that much.
Behavioral adaptations of plants are tropisms. A tropism is a plant's response to a stimulus. Different types of tropism include phototropism (reaction to light), hydrotropism (reaction to water) and gravitropism (reaction to gravity).
